Inside Dish: Coaches looking to change draft rule

Several prominent BCS coaches are pushing their university presidents to petition the NCAA for an NFL draft opt-out rule that would allow eligible underclassmen who declare for the draft to return to school if they don't hire an agent--much like in college basketball. The cutoff date likely would be after the Scouting Combine--possibly March 1--which would allow players time to judge their draft prospects. . . .

Dallas never learns. After stalled renovations to the decrepit Cotton Bowl contributed to the city's losing the Cotton Bowl game to the Dallas Cowboys' new facility in Arlington in 2010, Dallas stumbled again while trying to land a second Big 12 game (besides Texas-Oklahoma) to coincide with the State Fair of Texas in 2008. Dallas wanted Texas A&M-Texas Tech but couldn't make the deal sweet enough for A&M to give up a home game. Now it appears the second game will be Texas Tech-Oklahoma State. Tech and OSU played a neutral-site game at Texas Stadium in 1996 before 30,000 fans--about 60,000 shy of the 90,000 seats proposed for the revamped Cotton Bowl. . . .

Oregon State seemingly has it all with 17 starters back from a team that beat Southern California and won 10 games. The problem: QBs Sean Canfield and Lyle Moevao were average all spring, and neither assumed control of the offense.
