Where the Super Bowl QBs come from

It's not often that California is listed with Alabama and Notre Dame in college football circles, but the Golden Bears soon will join select company.

When Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers takes his first snap Sunday in Super Bowl XLV, Cal will become just the fourth college football program, along with Alabama, Notre Dame and Purdue, to have produced three quarterbacks to start in the Super Bowl.

Joe Kapp started for Minnesota in Super Bowl IV and Craig Morton started for the Cowboys in Super Bowl V and for the Broncos in Super Bowl XII.

Rodgers is hoping to become the first Cal quarterback to win a Super Bowl.

All three of the Super Bowl quarterbacks from Alabama -- Bart Starr, Joe Namath and Ken Stabler -- were victorious.

Notre Dame's Super Bowl quarterbacks -- Daryle Lamonica, Joe Montana and Joe Theismann -- had a 5-2 Super record, while Purdue's trio of Len Dawson, Bob Griese and Drew Brees were 4-2.

Here's a breakdown on the programs that have produced starting quarterbacks in the Super Bowl. Asterisks denote Sunday's projected starters.
