Little five-star power in Senior Bowl

The annual Senior Bowl is considered the best of the college all-star games. NFL staffs do the coaching, and the Senior Bowl solicits input from NFL scouts when deciding who gets invited.

Here's a look at this year's Senior Bowl rosters and how the players were ranked as recruits when they came out of high school.

One aspect that might be surprising is the lack of former five-star recruits in today's 4 p.m. game in Mobile, Ala. Remember, though, that no underclassmen can play in the game, and numerous top-level NFL prospects turn pro early. For instance, there were 29 five-star prospects in the 2007 signing class; eight turned pro last year, including five of the top six players in the class. Ten of the 30 five-star prospects in the 2008 class are turning pro this year.

The team with the most participants? It's Mississippi State, with four.

Fifteen players went to high school in Florida, the most of any state. California is second with 13 and Texas third with 11. All three South quarterbacks are Texas natives. One high school has two players in the game -- powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with Florida OL Marcus Gilbert and Miami WR Leonard Hankerson.

Also included is a look at some top seniors who, for various reasons, are not playing in the Senior Bowl.
