Stanford's Roman to interview at Vandy

MORE: 2010-11 Coaching Carousel

Stanford tight end coach Greg Roman will interview for the Vanderbilt coaching job Friday, has learned.

Cardinal coach Jim Harbaugh has been effusive in his praise of Roman, who also has the title of assistant head coach. Vanderbilt is said to be looking for a coach with an offensive background, considering the Commodres' struggles to score in recent seasons.

Roman never has been a head coach, but he has an extensive NFL resume. From 1995-2007, Roman coached with the Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens before joining Harbaugh in 2009.

Others believed to be involved in the school's search are Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster and Temple coach Al Golden.

Buffs narrow list
The search for Dan Hawkins' successor at Colorado may be nearing an end.

The Boulder (Colo.) Daily Camera and Denver Post report that the Colorado search is down to Jim McElwain, Eric Bieniemy and Jon Embree.

McElwain is the offensive coordinator at Alabama, Bieniemy is the Minnesota Vikings' running back coach and Embree is the Washington Redskins' tight end coach.

There seems to be a sentiment to hire a coach with connections to the school, which seemingly would give an edge to former Buffs players Bieniemy (a running back from 1987-90) and Embree (a tight end from 1983-86). In addition, Bieniemy was a Buffs assistant in 2001 and '02 under Gary Barnett, while Embree was a Buffs assistant from 1993-2002 under Bill McCartney, Rick Neuheisel and Barnett.

Changes in Texas?
Following a 5-7 season that was his worst in 13 seasons as Texas' coach, Mack Brown is under pressure to make some changes. is reporting that Brown will part ways with long-time offensive coordinator Greg Davis.

Mullen to Miami?
With Jon Gruden apparently out of the running for the Miami job, reports indicate that the search to replace Randy Shannon now may focus on Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen.

Others who are believed to be potential targets are Arizona coach Mike Stoops, Connecticut coach Randy Edsall, Temple coach Al Golden, Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville and Utah coach Kyle Whittingham.

Tuberville is a former UM assistant.

Don't be shocked if former UCLA coach Karl Dorrell becomes involved in some job openings. He is in his third season as the Miami Dolphins' wide receiver coach. Harvard coach Tim Murphy may get involved in the search at Indiana. Purdue AD Morgan Burke told the Lafayette (Ind.) Journal & Courier that Danny Hope won't receive a contract extension. Hope has a two-year mark of 9-15. His current deal runs through 2014. Tulane extended the contract of coach Bob Toledo, meaning his deal now runs through 2012 with an option for another season. This season's 4-8 record matched the best in his four years at the school. ... Three new names are bubbling up for the Ball State job: Oklahoma co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell, Nebraska offensive coordinator Shawn Watson and Akron defensive coordinator Curt Mallory.
