Stuck between the Cats and an off week
After a grueling opening eight games Mississippi State is battered and bruised at this point in the season.
The Bulldogs could desperately use a bye week to heal some wounds and get back healthy. But before MSU gets a break they will play one final contest against Kentucky this week.
"It's going to be a tough game with Kentucky," said MSU head coach Dan Mullen. "There is a bit of a rivalry there since it's our crossover game and that adds a little bit to it. It's a team from the East that you get to play every single year. It's also two teams that are fighting to take steps to stay up in the top part of the SEC bowl selections. They are very, very talented. They might be one of the most explosive offenses we have played."
The Wildcats may be 4-4 and losers in four of their last five games but have kept those games on average of 14.3 points. Kentucky's offense ranks second in the Southeastern Conference in scoring with 34.8 points a game and is fourth in total offense with 428.5 yards per contest.
"They can score in a hurry," Mullen said. "With all of their great athletes they can put points up on the board so they are never really out of the game. They've battled back and won some tough games and the kids have confidence. They are obviously a team that has gotten used to winning over the past couple of years. They are going to play for four quarters and even though they have fallen behind in a couple of games they have battled right back in until the end and found a way to win a couple of those games and that's what makes them a dangerous team."
Possibly the Wildcats most dangerous offensive weapon is junior wide receiver and former quarterback Randall Cobb. The 5-foot-11, 196-pounder has rushed 32 times for 195 yards and three touchdown, completed 4-of-6 passing for 51 yards and three touchdowns and also leads the team in receiving with 47 catches for 511 yards and five more scores.
