The Good: A tall, rangy athlete with good instincts in pass coverage. Has a natural feel for the passing game and possesses good range in the deep half once he gets himself going. Is a coordinated tackler who isn’t afraid to attack downhill and mix it up at the line of scrimmage. Takes good angles toward the ball in both the run and pass games. Knows how to go up, get the ball at its highest point and make the play. The Bad: Isn’t a real fluid safety and gets too long-legged when trying to get up to speed. Struggles transitioning out of his breaks and looks stiff when asked to turn and run down field. Not real powerful on contact and doesn’t play with natural leverage. Positives: Has very good size. Covers ground with long strides. Runs the alley and supports the run. Solid, wrap tackler. Good field vision. Can play the ball in the air and highpoint interceptions. Tracks the deep ball and catches it naturally. Fine instincts — reads the quarterback well and jumps routes. Football is important to him. Good work ethic. Smart on-field leader. Has a 371?2-inch vertical jump. Negatives: Has a linear build and could get stronger. Does not have top-end speed or transitional quickness — does not pop out of his breaks. Is not sudden. Lacks acceleration and burst to the break point and can be a step late to get over the top. Can do a better job consistently staying low in his pedal. Has a history of foot injuries. Summary: Long-limbed, rangy defender who is built more like a free safety but is best playing in the box, where he could defend the run.
