Alabama assistant head coach Kevin Steele will be the new defensive coordinator at Clemson, Rivals.com has learned. He also will coach linebackers.

Steele has coached at Alabama the past two seasons under Nick Saban. Before working in Tuscaloosa, Steele was linebackers coach at Florida State for four seasons (2003-2006). He was head coach at Baylor from 1999-2002, posting a 9-36 record. Steele also has served on staffs with the Carolina Panthers (1995-98), Nebraska (1989-94), Oklahoma State (1984-86) and Tennessee (1987-88) and New Mexico State (1983).

Steele, 50, is a native of Dillon, S.C., and Tennessee graduate.
