Following Texas Tech's victory over Texas, coach Mike Leach has suddenly become one of the hottest coaches in college football, being linked as a potential target for the coaching positions at Washington, Clemson and Tennessee.

Texas Tech chancellor Kent Hance said the administration is going to do everything in its power to keep the Red Raiders' coach.

"We are definitely going to keep Mike Leach," he told RedRaiderSports.com late Wednesday night. "He's a great coach, he's a great guy and he's going to get a new contract at the end of the season.

"We are proud of him and we're looking forward to his next victories. I don't want to distract or do anything to distract him from taking care of business. We are going to take care of everything, and Mike Leach is going to be the coach at Texas Tech for a long time."

Leach, 74-37 in nine years at Texas Tech, signed a five-year extension in 2006 that boosted his annual average salary to $2 million. Offseason negotiations between Leach's representatives and Tech for a new extension were tabled before the beginning of the 2008 campaign and will be resumed at its conclusion.

"We'll certainly extend Mike's contract when the season ends, it's never been a question," Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers told Bloomberg. "He's our coach and we want him to remain our coach. We'll reward him for what he's done."

Texas Tech, No. 2 in the BCS rankings, faces off against No. 9 Oklahoma State on Saturday.
