Once every few years, the NCAA allows schools to make international travel plans and the Washington State University men's hoop team are getting a taste of the breadth of that international competition this month. Wazzu hammered the New Zealand Breakers, 80-55, in their first game, with Derrick Low leading the Cougars with 20 points.

But they got a taste of their own medicine against the developmental squad for the Australian national team - the Boomers. The Cougars appeared to be on their way to another win, building a 42-36 halftime lead, but were outscored 33-13 in the third quarter and then had to claw back with a 26-16 fourth quarter run before redshirt junior-to-be Taylor Rochestie was called for an offensive foul that ended the game with the Boomers ahead, 85-84. Low again led the Cougars in scoring, this time with 30 points, while Aussie Aron Baynes, playing in front of his family, tossed in 22.

The Cougars will next play the Waratah All-Stars at 2 a.m. tomorrow morning [Pacific time] June 8 in Sydney.
