The stats: 144 of 307 passing (46.9 percent), 1,949 yards, 16 touchdowns.

The facts: All-American in 1948. ... 16-5 record as a starter. ... Led the conference in passing twice and in punting once. ... Led the Ducks to the 1949 Cotton Bowl. ... Member of the College and Pro Football halls of fame.

The game: In the Cotton Bowl following the 1948 season – Oregon's first bowl game in 29 years – the Ducks fell behind Heisman Trophy winner Doak Walker's SMU squad before Van Brocklin sparked a second-half comeback. Van Brocklin led Oregon on two fourth-quarter scoring drives to get the Ducks within eight points with just more than six minutes to play. In the end, Walker and teammate Kyle Rote were just too much as SMU hung on to win 21-13. After passing for 145 yards and one touchdown in the game, Van Brocklin became the first Oregon player to throw for 1,000 yards in a season.

The reason he gets your vote: Nicknamed "The Dutchman," Van Brocklin brought the modern passing game to Hayward Field. He was the first in a long line of great Oregon quarterbacks.

The stats: 482 of 956 passing (50.4 percent), 5,995 yards, 37 touchdowns, 39 interceptions.

The facts: Established 19 school records including career passing yards, total offense and single-game passing yards. ... First Oregon quarterback to pass for more than 2,000 in a season. ... All-Pac-8 selection.

The game: Fouts threw the winning touchdown to cap a wild three-touchdown comeback in a 41-40 victory at UCLA in 1970. The game is still considered one of the most exciting in school history.

The reason he gets your vote: A little-known recruit coming out of high school, Fouts went on to shine at Oregon before putting together a Hall of Fame career with the San Diego Chargers.
