Video: Dantonio sees a lot of positives in Spring Game
EAST LANSING - Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio was pleased with the turnout for the Green and White Game as 30,000 Spartan Fans watched the Otis Wiley and Greg Jones led Green team pick up a 23-21 victory over the White team featuring Brian Hoyer
Dantonio was pleased with the intensity that both sides played with as well as the production he received from his three quarterbacks Brian Hoyer, Nick Foles, and Kirk Cousins.
The three quarterbacks combined for more than 500 yards passing. Mark Dell, B.J. Cunningham, and Chris D. Rucker piled up around 300 yards of that total. Dell led the way with 120 yards receiving on six catches. Cunningham had 6 catches for 97 yards and a touchdown and Rucker scored a pair of touchdowns with 90 yards receiving and 3 catches.
"As far as how we played and everything, I thought we had pretty good execution from all three of our quarterbacks," said Dantonio. "We caught the ball in traffic very well, we had a limited amount of turnovers, a couple of offside penalties that we have to take care of, but we held on to the ball."
Before the Green and White Game, Dantonio said that he wanted to see his receivers step up. He got exactly what he wanted on Saturday.
"I thought a lot of guys took a step forward today," said Dantonio. "BJ Cunningham and Mark Dell played very, very well, and Chris D. Rucker made some big plays. We have to solidify some things, but in the long run, we are ahead of where we were."
Both teams were held in check on the ground. The White team rushed for 22 yards. The Green team rushed for 57 yards. The Green team was paced by Andre Anderson who finished with 28 yards on 15 carries.
Dantonio gave a lot of credit to the rush defense of both teams.
"I think you have to look at the defense," said Dantonio. "We played pretty well up front defensively and applied some pressure to the quarterback. I also thought we tackled well."
