Carr comments on Big Ten tweaks
Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany noted that conference coaches are unanimous in wanting to return a bye week to what is now a 12-game regular-season schedule. Yet they don't agree on how it should be done. Michigan coach Lloyd Carr offers his thoughts on that topic and a few others.
Carr is a major proponent of a bye week, noting the grind his and every other program's football players endure. Getting it done is of paramount importance, he indicated.
"That's an issue everybody recognizes as important for the players," he said. "It's only fair to them.
"There is no easy way to do it, without extending the season. My preference is to start a week early and build a bye week in, and I think our coaches in the Big Ten prefer that. But to do that would take a change in NCAA rules. Because you're playing some non-conference games at the beginning of the season, there would be a lot of other conferences that would not favor that."
