CHICAGO - Mark Dantonio addressed members of the Lansing and statewide media off podium after he addressed members of the national media on the first day of the Big Ten's football media Days.

Off podium, Dantonio spoke at length about the successful surgery that incoming freshman Arthur Ray had recently to remove a cancerous tumor. The surgery, said Dantonio, lasted roughly 15 hours.

Dantonio added that Ray is planning to begin his football career at Michigan State at an unknown future date. Currently, Ray is hoping to begin classes in September. But that date may be pushed back to January depending on Ray's recovery time.
