Dantonio speaks to a charged up Breslin crowd
EAST LANSING - Joined by Spartan captains and seniors, Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio spoke to a charged-up Breslin Center crowd at halftime of Michigan State's basketball game against Bowling Green, Saturday.
Greg Jones, Aaron Bates and Kirk Cousins also briefly address the crowd, which included a handful of football recruits on their official visits to MSU.
Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis told the crowd to answer his chant of "We are!" with "Big Ten champs!"
Two members of the MSU Dance Team brought the Big Ten Championship Trophy to center court for Dantonio, who handed it to Jones.
"That thing (the Big Ten Championship Trophy) hasn't been here in 20 years," Dantonio said. "When you win something like that, it makes it easier to win it again and again and again."
Izzo hated to miss the proceedings.
"I was hoping to maybe stay out there for a little bit of it but we had our own problems," Izzo said. "Just seeing those guys in the tunnel, I feel so good for Mark. He has worked so hard. He has been through a lot and he is just a great guy. A great coach, yes, but a great guy. I was happy for him and his family and those players.
"It's really been a storybook year in so many ways. The biggest one is we're Big Ten Champs in 2010 in football and basketball. We got to a Final Four and they are going to get to a very, very good bowl game. Whether it's a BCS bowl game or not, they are a BCS quality team, and that's like a Final Four."
The Spartans will learn their bowl destination on Sunday night.
